My Story...
I value both the therapeutic process and the therapist/client relationship and, as such, make certain that each client feels heard and understood.
I do not view a client as a diagnosis to be managed but as a person with hopes, dreams, goals, and limitless potential to be explored. I am committed to a client's personal growth and self-discovery. My goal is always to partner with clients to help them know themselves, their needs, and help them learn healthy ways to get those needs met.
I am an EMDRIA-certified EMDR practioner and have advanced training in complex/developmental trauma & attachment as well as the Recent Traumatic Event Protocol (R-TEP) to aid in processing newly experienced events and the Group Traumatic Event Protocol (G-TEP) that allows families or groups to process a collective trauma together. I have also supplemented my work in this area by training in the somatic techniques of Natural Processing & Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. These trauma-informed approaches have provided me with the tools to work with clients struggling with past and current events that are overwhelming their ability to cope effectively.
I have a deep appreciation for and extensive experience in working with highly sensitive clients and empaths. I understand their unique needs and work with them to manage the intensity of their emotions and embrace their many gifts.
I have worked in schools for over 20 years as a teacher, counselor, and administrator; this has helped me understand the pressures, stress, and needs of educators. I am passionate about my work with education professionals and strive to provide them a space to explore their feelings and needs while helping them find a meaningful work/life balance.
I employ a humanistic and integrative approach to therapy which focuses on a person's individual nature and emphasizes a client's ability to use his/her personal instincts to find wisdom, growth, and fulfillment within him/herself. Additionally, I draw from somatic approaches that utilize a holistic and neurobiological approach to healing and thus utilize yoga, meditation, and other mindfulness-based techniques when appropriate.
